What Makes You Rich

What Makes You Rich

I know that I’ve talked a great deal about entrepreneurship being the key to success, but that doesn’t mean that it is the only path to accumulating wealth.

Everyone is unique and has their own specialized set of skills.  Some people, like Tyler Perry are amazing entrepreneurs and can use their skills with ease.  Others, like Valerie Daniels-Carter were able to work within large companies to earn their millions.

You must remember that your success is not positively or negatively affected by anyone else’s triumphs or failures.  Just because your best friend failed at starting a business does not mean that you will do the same.  Just because an old classmate has become a CEO of a huge company does not mean that you have to follow their path to be successful.

We often base our expectations of success of other people, but doing better than your brother is not be successful.  Doing worse than your father does not make you a failure.  To move forward, you need to let go of these arbitrary ways of measuring yourself and simply allow yourself to reach your fullest potential, whatever and however that may be.

The important issue is discovering what makes you passionate… pursuing it.  I, myself, have found teaching to be one of the most rewarding experiences in my life.  Almost all the millionaires I interviewed give back to their communities, and I have found that passing on my knowledge—my most precious resource—is my way of giving back.

The truth is, there are no hard, fast rules to success.  Yes, I’ve found a lot of core strategies in making it to the top, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t new ones popping up every day.  Who knows?  Maybe in another ten years I’ll interview the new generation of millionaires and find completely different answers.
