If you don’t have enough money in your life and you are a Black American, there’s just one reason: you. I know that may sound harsh. I know there have been problems all along the way. You may not have had a good childhood or a good education. But we live in a country overflowing with opportunity. There are ways for a motivated person to get their hands on books.
There are ways to make money flow, not watch it all go.
In my brand new book “The Wealth Choice: Success Secrets of Black Millionaires”, I put together all the best of what I’ve learned from interviewing the most financially successful black folks in this country. I’m going to share just 3 of those tips with you here today.
1. Where You Come From Ain’t as Important as Where You are Going. Whatever you’ve been through, whatever setbacks you’ve had, you have at this moment in your life – this very second – the ability to choose. Whatever your age or how much money you’ve got in the bank today, you have a brain. You can use that brain to announce to yourself that since others have overcome similar challenges and gone on to succeed, that you will do it, too. It really is as simple as starting with that one decision. Make it now.
2. A Small Step is Better than No Step. If you wanted to lose 20 lbs, you know how crazy you’d have to be by saying you want it gone by tomorrow morning. Unless you were planning to cut off your leg, that just isn’t how it works. Money is the same way. Choosing to put spend just $1 less this week than you did last, and putting it in an envelope or a coffee can or better yet – the bank – in the first step in the right direction.
3. Take It on Yourself to Find Support. It’s not easy to get out of where you’re at all on your own. But thankfully, there are plenty of places – probably near you – that offer help, support, guidance and that could be filled with people who will cheer you on not drag you down. You have to be brave enough to look for a community of people who ‘got your back’. You might find you get support and guidance by reading uplifting books on how to become successful; you might join a group, a club or attend a service at your church designed to find and support those people who want to better their lives. The exact people you need to get to the next step are around you somewhere. You have to take the effort to look for them.
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. If you want to prove to yourself that you’re not insane, grab onto one of these three steps and start to create a different result – economic success – in your life today.
